Methods and Meaning
I picked Robert Doisneau to investigate; his portfolio and mountain touched base with mylandscape photography, which showed his remote locations and the journey to getthere. In my photography, I never thought of doing my journey to the location. He also showed the fun that the people were having when they got to theirlocation. Shot in black and white, amedium that he preferred as he felt it conveyed the atmosphere and emotions ofthe captured images. Throughout the photos, he has only used natural light. Youget a depth to the pictures, and the contrast within the images helps to bringthe image to life.
He wasinfluenced by Henri Cartier-Bresson and shared a similar approach to streetphotography, valuing the "decisive moment" – the perfect instant when allelements within the frame come together to create a compelling image.

Have any of these practitioners given you any inspiration for strategiesor methods?

Q. What challenged you?
The research was challenging to get a start point once I had a startpoint trying to find the information needed. But it was also trying to find aconnection to their methodology and how it possibly fitted into my practice.
Q. What surprised you?
On researching this topic, I found that they are all entwined to a point. They have all got some or parts of the same methodologies. It is carried over in many genres of photography; I was even surprisedthat even though I have never known any of the photographers that I have researched, how much of their methodology I had in common.
Q. What do you feel you learned?
Even though I do quite a few genres of photography, there are many othermethodologies from other photographers. That I didn’t even know or was aware of. Intoday's photography, I now believe that all genres have methods and methodologies passed through time in one way or another.
Consider also the points raised in the presentation:
Q. What methods and methodologies have you consciously applied in your practice to date to communicate a concept or an intended meaning?
Q. Can you identify and describe methods in your practice that convey meaning, which you might not have intended at the time?
Q. Have any of the practitioners you lookedat this week (including your peers) given you any inspiration for strategies ormethods you might ‘impose’ upon yourself to expand the creative possibilitiesof your own work?
